FAQ (In mostly Tim’s Voice)
Who decides who gets a monetary gift from the Sh*t Gets Fixed community?
Me. Tim Schneider. I’m the principal decision maker when it comes to gifting. My experience with cancer, my best judgment and most of all my heart, goes in to choosing.
The staff of the medical facility I’m visiting as well as other cancer patients I meet help to find potential recipients. Many of the cancer patients I encounter have had cancer put a big dent in their ability to earn income and keep their financial house in order. We help the people who need our help the most first.
What’s the amount of the monetary gift given to each individual?
Once the Sh*t Gets Fixed YouTube channel becomes eligible for googles YouTube partner program and we (a non profit) receive funds, we will have a better idea. Of course, this also depends on the success of this channel. If I estimate the channel making $5K a year I think that each gift should be in the neighborhood of $250.00 allowing us to help about 20 cancer patients a year. If the channel makes $50K a year I think the gift should be $500.00. That would give us a chance to help about 100 cancer patients! If the channel becomes extremely successful beyond my wildest dreams, let’s say $1,000,000.00! (One Million) Each gift should be in the ballpark of $5,000.00. This would allow us to help around 200 cancer patients a year!
Why don’t you accept applications for potential recipients?
The process must remain simple to be effective. If we accepted applications for potential recipients, we would be overwhelmed and need an army of people just to review each application. This would put a huge drag on the efficiency of the giving process.
Where will the gifts be given?
We are in the Midwest. Most if not all of the gifts will be given out in the upper Midwest. That said, people need help everywhere. Currently we are limiting our help to the United States.
How will you get the gift to each recipient?
We will simply walk up to the recipient, tell them the mission of Sh*t Gets Fixed and about all of you that make that mission possible, then hand them the envelope. Straight forward and effective.
Are any strings attached to this gift?
No! never! This is the point. The good will of everybody who helped is the attachment they will have. I only ask people to pay it forward someday somehow. I was helped in this way and that is what I am doing!
NOTE: The mission of Sh*t Gets Fixed will not change but the small details on how we give out gifts, or how we choose who gets a gift might. Not necessarily the perfect method, but effective nonetheless. We will keep everyone up to date on improvements to our process as things evolve.
